Position Overview:

Have a strong adoration for Charlotte’s urban forest? Are you looking to make a positive impact in our community through trees? TreesCharlotte is currently seeking a full-time Urban Forest Manager to join our team to lead our organization’s arboriculture programming! Our Urban Forest Manager will play a crucial role in growing, diversifying, and caring for our iconic urban forest. Under the guidance of the Director of Programs, you will help lead the arboriculture aspects of our tree plantings, tree adoptions, and tree care events. This job has a lot of moving parts and will introduce you to a wide range of communities and the people who live, work, and play in them.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Assess tree needs for planting locations alongside the Community Engagement Manager.
• Use arboricultural knowledge to make tree species recommendations for planting sites while taking into consideration the urban aspects of tree growth, landscape, utilities, wants and needs of the community, and biodiversity of site.
• Assist with TreeAdoptions by contributing to tree selections and creating tree species information, including large format posters and handouts.
• Create planting plans for all planting sites, including but not limited to CommunityWoods, Treesilience, and school plantings.
• Lead the TreesCharlotte TreeKeeper Program through training and managing throughout the pruning season.
• Visit past planting sites on an annual basis to check the status of the trees and providing feedback to the team.

Keys to Success:

• “Team-over-self” personality; professional, energetic, and positive attitude.
• Hold a BCMA or ISA arborist certification. TRAQ certification is a plus, but not required.
• Highly developed organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
• Ability to work Saturdays, especially during planting season (late September through March), and the occasional weeknight.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is a must, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Prior knowledge of or ability to quickly learn and use a variety of other software platforms (i.e. Salsa, GivePulse, Canva, Design software (ex. inDesign).
• Valid driver’s license with a driving record that meets insurance requirements and access to reliable transportation.
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Forestry, Ecology, Horticulture, or related field.
• Robust knowledge of North Carolina’s trees, plant biology, tree care, and urban forestry.
• Hold or be willing to obtain a TRAQ (Tree Risk Assessment Qualification) Certification within the first year of employment.
• A love of trees and the desire to grow Charlotte’s tree canopy!

Compensation:

• Salary commensurate with experience and Charlotte market,
• Full-time position, including Saturdays, especially during planting season (late September through March), and the occasional weeknight, with the ability to adjust work hours based on the needs of the operation,
• 50% medical insurance, 100% vision and dental,
• 2% Simple IRA company contribution,
