Looking to gain professional experience working for an environmental nonprofit? TreesCharlotte is currently looking for a Spring 2024 intern!
About TreesCharlotte: TreesCharlotte is a public/private nonprofit collaboration to grow, diversify and steward the city’s iconic urban forest. Trained volunteers and science-based programs teach residents about the value of trees and how to plant and care for them.
Known as “The City of Trees,” Charlotte has a wonderful foundation for achieving manageable canopy goals. However, a detailed analysis shows we must take a more aggressive approach to ensure the continued health and well-being of our tree canopy, and we must actively plant thousands of trees to account for growth and development in our city and around the region.
Internship Summary: TreesCharlotte is seeking an intern for the Spring 2024 Semester (February – May) to assist with tree data tracking of past planting sites. Working with our Community Arborist and our Director of Programs, our intern will learn how to collect and track tree data using an internally developed scorecard as well as utilizing the City of Charlotte’s Tree by Tree software. Data collected from this internship will assist TreesCharlotte in their future programming including scheduling tree care events and assessing sites for future phases of tree plantings.
This internship will include a combination of in-office time and remote work. Intern will be required to drive to various past planting sites in Charlotte to conduct site assessments and will report back their findings in a timely manner, as per the schedule developed by our Community Arborist & Director of Programs. While some projects can be completed onsite in the TreesCharlotte office, many site visits and projects will be conducted remotely.
