TreesCharlotte Awarded 2014 Women’s Impact Fund Grant

TreesCharlotte has received a $96,000 high-impact grant from the Women’s Impact Fund to expand its NeighborWoods program. A total of $377,500 was awarded to five local non-profits in the areas of Arts and Culture, Education, Health, Human Services and Environment.

NeighborWoods, winner in the category of Environment, is a program to replenish and sustain Charlotte’s tree canopy in deforested and underserved areas. Grant dollars will be used to purchase 1,800 trees and partially pay for six tree-planting events.

“We are thrilled by this grant and endorsement from the Women’s Impact Fund – this is the peoples’ choice award from this highly prestigious and high impact funder, and we are truly honored to be a recipient”, said Dave Cable, TreesCharlotte Executive Director. “This grant propels TreesCharlotte forward, and will allow us to not only expand our urban forest in needed areas, but also engage and educate residents and children about tree care and the benefits of trees in the urban environment.”

The NeighborWoods program is an integral part of TreesCharlotte’s objective of planting up to up to 15,000 trees annually. These trees contribute to the goal adopted by the City Council to increase Charlotte’s tree canopy coverage to 50% by 2050.
