TreesCharlotte sources its trees from three N.C. growers. Over the season, we’ll introduce you to them. Today: Scottree in Shelby.

A quick history of ScottreeScottree is a spinoff of Shelby Nursery Inc., founded by Scott Warrick Sr. in 1961 as a garden center and full landscape operation. It grew to include hyrdroseeding and did largescale seeding projects along Interstate 40 through Hickory and Interstate 26 down through Saluda Mountain.

Scott handed the Shelby Nursery reins to son Skip in the 1970s and started a cut-your-own Christmas tree farm called Scottree. Later, Skip added ornamental and shade trees to Scottree. Scott Sr. passed away in 2008.

Is Scottree still a family farm? Yes! Skip’s son Trey and daughter Bryte work with him.

How big is Scottree today? Scottree has grown to 70 acres of container and balled and burlap trees. It has 15 employees.

Can the public take tours? Scottree focuses on wholesale sales and is not open to the public, but it does offer private tours for groups in the green industry.
