This tree is currently the State Champion (largest specimen in the state) Deodar Cedar. It was originally nominated by Joe McLaurin & Tom Martin, the founders of the Treasure Tree Program. It was preserved during the construction of a new house in the early 2000s. The Deodar Cedar is known as a great landscape specimen for the color of its foliage and the intriguing branch patterns. Deodar Cedars produce an aromatic oil that naturally deters insects.
