Thanks to the generous support of Novant Health, TreesCharlotte is partnering with Mecklenburg County Health Department, Faith CME, and NC Cooperative Extension to plant fruit trees on the church’s campus.
The purpose of the initiative is to develop an urban orchard in an effort to increase access and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables for residents in the Hidden Valley neighborhood of Mecklenburg County. Fruit trees will be planted and harvested by Faith CME Church parishioners and residents of communities surrounding the church. Food will be distributed according to criteria which is still being developed. Ultimately, the program could be used as a template for other faith-based organizations to begin similar initiatives.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable event, we are limiting the number of volunteers to 30 for this TreeDay. Register early as our events “sell out” quickly. 5 spots remain.
Volunteer groups of 10 or more, please contact events director, Heike Biller to determine if there is enough capacity.
Tree planting events are great for families and all ages are welcome. To ensure accurate active volunteer counts, please list all participants on the registration form, along with children’s ages. Children 16 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
Children activities will be provided between 9:00 and 10:00am by our community partner, NC Wildlife Federation.
TreesCharlotte is exited to partner with CupLux Coffee to provide our volunteers with delicious, hand crafted coffee at our events.
Events are held rain or shine. A modest rainfall actually provides ideal planting conditions.
Deadline to register to volunteer is Monday, October 28.
Once registered, more detailed information will be emailed to you the week of the event.
Thank you TreeMasters, we have enough help at this one and we’re just looking for a few more volunteers.
