After receiving a tip from a parent, the 4th grade class at Covenant Day School were taken on a park excursion in the woods of Warner Park as part of their study of forestry. They located this tree, which turned out to be the largest of its species in the state of North Carolina in 2007. The athletic fields behind this park have since been expanded, so it remains to be seen if the tree has survived.
