This tree was originally identified as American Basswood, but original Treasure Tree founder Tom Martin sent samples to a lab for identification, and it confirmed the tree was actually a Crimean Linden. The Crimean Linden is a hybrid developed in the 19th century. The flowers possess a nectar that attracts bees and produces a strong flavored honey. When this tree is in flower it will be full of bees, hence its common name "Bee Tree." The honey is white in color and highly regarded. Linden flowers are used in the manufacture of perfumes.
